All About Me

I grew up in Granger (now called West Valley). I have three brothers and two sisters. I met my husband, Dan, by accidentally spilling water on him at a Youth Conference dinner (although he thinks it was on purpose) just before I went to Granger High. We were married after I attended BYU for a year (after dating many other guys I decided he was the best of all the rest) and he had completed his mission to Germany. Dan has been a great editor and support in my writing, speaking and singing endeavors. In many ways he has been the "wind beneath my wings."

We have four daughters (Cindy, Heidi, Tiffany, Trisha), a foster daughter, Josie, and a son, Joseph. We also have eight fantastic grandchildren and four amazing foster grandchildren.

Currently we live in Murray, Utah.

My interest in teaching guitar began when I was 17 years old and a neighbor across the street began teaching guitar. I fell in love with the instrument and played it hour after hour till my fingers hurt. By the time I was 18, I was teaching guitar through community education and I've been teaching on and off since that time.

My interest in writing began in elementary school when I received my first locking journal. That interest has grown through the years and has led me to write newspaper articles, magazine articles and internet articles. In September of 2007 I had a dream come true when my first book was published through Windhaven entitled, First-Aid for Feelings. My second book, My Journey from Darkness to Light, is my story of overcoming depression and bi-polar illness one step at a time. In addition, it tells of recovering from brain tumor surgery, handling severe migraines and living in and out of a wheelchair for 18 months during an unknown illness.

My interest in speaking began way back in Jr. High in Mr. Canady's Drama Class. It was there that I discovered how much I love the stage and the microphone. Years later, after recovering from a major depression, I began public speaking so I could teach others things I wish I would have known. Singing and playing the guitar came naturally as I went to various locations from church gatherings to community classes to the Utah State Prison. I found that music helped get my message across in a warm, unique and fun way.

My hope is to help. Whether I'm writing, speaking or singing, it is my desire to help others. I hope you will find help here.
